Lonnie Elias, Jr., 44, is facing multiple charges following his arrest on Friday, Oct. 21 for allegedly sexually abusing a minor, officials said.

In late September, the Prince George’s County Police Special Crimes Division Child and Vulnerable Adult Abuse Unit (CVAA) was notified by a woman that she was allegedly sexually abused by Elias between 2015 and 2017 while she was a student at the high school.

According to police, CVAA investigators interviewed the alleged victim and made contact with Elias on Sunday, Oct. 2, and Prince George’s County Public School officials were notified the following day, at which point, Elias was placed on administrative leave.

Officials noted that Elias has not had contact with students after the police and school district were made aware of the allegations. He has been with the school system since 2007, reportedly acting as a music teacher and band director.

The case was presented to the state’s attorney’s office, which issued an indictment earlier this week and a grand jury issued a warrant for Elias for sex abuse of a minor and related charges.

Elias was arrested without incident in Upper Marlboro on Friday, police said, and transported to the Department of Corrections where he will appear before the District Court Commissioner.
